Last year I brought a chaos marauders warband to NEMO. And I had a plan in my head for what to do with my warband’s leader depending on how he performed at the event. If he died, he would be dead. If he turned into a spawn, I would add a spawn to my full warriors of chaos army for The Old World. If he survived, I’d make him a marauder unit champion. If he gained a mark of chaos, he would become a warrior of chaos in my full army.

Well, he did end up turning into a chaos spawn, so I made a spawn version of him for my army. But then I got to thinking about what he would have looked like if he had become a full fledged chaos warrior. And what he would have looked like if he had even turned into a daemon prince eventually. So I came up with an in-universe reason why that might happen.

I created chaos monoloths as scatter terrain and I sent them off to a few good friends. I left a few of the cubbies empty so that my friends could place real trophies into them when they win games. To act as sacrificial offerings to the gods. When my friends report back that their sacrifices are complete, Halgrim Skullhammer will officially return as a daemon prince. But I couldn’t wait to build him, so I did.

Since the original Halgrim is based on Radukar the wolf, it only seemed fitting to base his daemon form on Radukar the beast. They’re both pokemon evolutions of their respective characters. I never intended to do all of this, but it’s kind of turned into a year long study of the journey of one character along the path to glory. It’s been really fun and kind of meditative to focus on him exclusively. Currently I’m working on a chaos champion in full plate armor to represent what he would have looked like if he had earned that mark of chaos and ended up joining my full ToW army. But that’s a post for another day.
