Making interactive terrain for my friends

So I just posted my narrative battle report from my games at the New England Mordheim Open, and an interesting thing emerged from that project. My Marauders of Chaos warband started raising monuments to the Dark Gods all over the city. The idea is that they and other chaos-aligned warbands can leave tributes at the monoliths when they win important battles. Once the gods are satisfied with the sacrifices, they would bless my warband. Well, I had the idea to actually make those monuments out of XPS foam and send them to a few friends who play chaos factions.

I left a lot of the cubbies empty so that my friends could literally leave tributes and trophies on the monument when they win games. They can be used as scatter terrain, or just as a nice display piece in their army cabinets. One of my friends who received the Nurgle stone, Summon Lesser Maker, even modified his to make it fit permanently on his massive Mordheim terrain board!

The idea is that if you are playing against, say, dwarves, and you kill their leader/general in a nail-biting cinematic duel, you can get a dwarven head bit, or even ask your friend for one. Then paint it up and place it into one of the stone cubbies as a trophy and a reminder of the epic battle.

So I’ve been thinking lately about what should happen if and when my friends report back that they’ve filled all the stones up with tributes. If you’ve read my narrative battle report, you know that my main character dies during the story (Spoiler alert. But still read it because I think it had a pretty climactic and satisfying ending.) So I was thinking it would be cool to model a daemon prince based on my Halgrim Skullhammer character and only reveal it to the world when the gods are satisfied with the tributes. As if they resurrected him from the dead. I’d even like to write a bossfight scenario for Mordheim around him.

I think this would be a really fun collaborative art and storytelling project. And it would be really fun to create a third model to represent Halgrim through his various stages on the Path to Glory Currently I have a model of him as an Aspiring Champion, and another one for his Chaos Spawn form.

Check out my video on the project if you want more info!
