Someone asked me if I use ChatGPT to help me flesh out my lore, so I just wanted to make it clear: No. Absolutely not. Not a single syllable or pixel of my work will ever be AI generated.
Even if AI didn’t look like shit, and even if it didn’t have the ethical issues it has, it’s just not a medium I’m interested in. It’s mechanically no different from google searching and that’s not the medium I want to work in. Typing a phrase to receive an image that didn’t come from your head is consuming, not creating.
“But AI is just a tool bro. It’s here to stay bro. AI could do that so much faster and better bro.”
All I hear when people say that to me is “Why are you rock climbing bro? Don’t you know an elevator can get you there quicker? Elevators aren’t going away bro.” But the purpose of rock climbing isn’t to simply get there with no effort. It’s about problem solving, and self-improvement. And it’s the same with art. I’m not trying to just generate words and imagery and squirt them out onto social media as fast as possible. It’s about exploring your own limitations and eliminating them, or working around them, or incorporating them.
The process is the point.
I don’t trust any “artist” who uses AI to skip that part. And I have no interest in “art” created that way. At all. Why would I? It can’t possibly have a point of view.
Ok, back to hobby posting…
